Types of Residences
A residence offering apartments designed for independent retirees. They provide practical services such as meals, laundry, and leisure activities, while excluding personal care. Residents enjoy a social life in a safe environment.
A residence that provides services for seniors who need moderate support with daily activities. Personalized care is available, such as assistance with bathing, dressing, or mobility, medication management, and tailored support adapted to each resident’s specific needs.
A progressive residence adapts to changes in seniors’ health, offering services adjusted to their evolving needs. It also allows couples to remain together, even if one requires more specialized care in another section of the residence.
Designed for seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease or cognitive disorders, such as dementia or Parkinson’s. This residence provides a secure environment with specialized supervision. It offers care and encourages a stable routine to make daily life easier and more reassuring. This structured setting helps seniors maintain quality of life while receiving support adapted to their condition.
An establishment that provides a safe and supervised living environment for seniors with mild to moderate loss of autonomy. These facilities offer accommodation, daily assistance (meals, hygiene, mobility), and up to three hours of care per day.
A residence offering short-term stays for seniors who temporarily need accommodation to recover after hospitalization, or for families who need relief (or are going on vacation) and do not want to leave their loved one alone at home.
An establishment for seniors with significant loss of autonomy, whose physical or cognitive condition requires continuous monitoring and constant care (more than three hours per day). CHSLDs provide an adapted environment with on-site medical follow-up, medication management, hygiene care, and nursing services.
There are three types of CHSLDs:
1. Public CHSLD
2. Private CHSLD under agreement (accessible through the public health system)
3. Private non-contracted CHSLD (fully private)
Note: Public IRs and CHSLDs are fully managed by the Ministry of Health and Social Services. To access these public facilities, an evaluation by a healthcare professional is required. The person’s overall health and level of autonomy are assessed to determine the appropriate housing option.
